Community Phone Subsidy Scheme (CPSS)
The CPSS is a project funded by the Department of Communication, Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA), and will be available to designated remote and rural communities throughout Australia.
PYMedia Telecommunications team will be travelling to communities in the Apatula and Tennant Creek regions of the Northern Territory to begin initial consultations in February 2005.
PYMedia's role will be to assist communities to apply for the CPSS, and liase with Telstra for service delivery. Regional agents have been contracted to assist in rollout of this project on the ground, which will include advocacy and support for communities in the application and site verification process and training in maintenance of the Community Phone. In the NT, the regional agent is Centre for Appropriate Technology (CAT), and in WA, the regional agent is Pilbara and Kimberley Media Association (PAKAM).
Applications are now closed for this year, however if your community would like to apply for 'Stream 2', please contact PYMedia - PYTel on 8954 8164.
During March 2006, an Evaluation of the CPSS was conducted by DCITA and supported by the Regional Agents. We would like to thank all participating communities, as their input is valuable information towards recommendations that will improve Indigenous telecommunications strategies in the future.
