PY Telecommunications

PY Media delivers telecommunciations services and advocacy projects, funded by the Australian Federal Department of Communication, Information Technology and the Arts (DCITA) to a membership of 18 comunities and homelands in the APY lands of northern SA. PYMedia has often represented other Indigneous communities with national advocacy and project delivery.

The iConnect Project, which finished on the 15 June 2005, delivered residential telephones to remote and rural communities in regional South Australia,south of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory and the Ngaanyatjarra Shire in Western Australia.
Customers enquiring about the status of their applications or service delivery timeframes should call the Telstra Indigenous Call Centre on 1800 444 403.

The Community Phones Subsidy Scheme (CPSS), begins in February 2005, and will finish in June 2006.
PYMedia Telecommunications team will be consulting with many communities in the Apatula, Tennant Creek and Tiwi Island regions of the Northern Territory, and the Kimberley region of West Australia, assisting in the application and delivery processes of community telephones. Regional Agents for NT (Centre for Appropriate Technology - CAT) and WA (Pilbara and Kimberly Media Association -PAKAM) wil be assiting in the rollout of training and advocacy for communities during this process.

Throughout the first half of 2006, PYMedia will be delivering a Telecommunications Rights Campaign to consumers in the APY lands through 5NPY radio and ICTV broadcasts. This information will also be presented to communities and local organisations as a PYTel Info Kit including a residential phonebook, and fact sheets outling the types of services available to remote customers and showing how to apply for new services, report faults, organise change of lesee as well as provide general consumer rights information.
