Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Media (PYMedia) has installed Video Conferencing Units (VCUs) in many communities across the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in northern South Australia, providing not only the potential for greater communication than ever before, but an opportunity for generating community based income which utilizes existing resources and infrastructure.

With an ISDN high resolution real time connection, Video Conferencing has now become a usable tool for Government organizations and professionals to effectively communicate with people in remote Australia.

VCUs enable face to face dialogue with Traditional owners, Community Council and Members, Managers and Municipal Service Offices based in some of the most remote communities in Australia by just dialing a few numbers.

The land based fiber optic VCU is an affordable substitute to traveling long distances which is often at a high cost to organizations in time and resources. It also enables people to stay at their workplace and have face to face conferences and meetings rather than spend time away from their home and family.

'Meetings online', connected through the VCUs, costs a tenth of the price that it costs to mobilize staff to travel by road to the AP Lands for meetings. The lower cost will allow huge savings to organizations that are already struggling with the crippling cost of distance.
