Noeli Roberts: Senior Wati BRACS Worker
Noeli Roberts was instrumental in introducing media to the Ngaanyatjarra lands over 10 years ago, pushing for BRACS (Broadcasting for Remote Aboriginal Communities Scheme) to be introduced in 12 communities. He has received Certificates for Media Broadcasting & Operations and Workplace Training from Batchelor College, and now works as the Senior Wati media trainer with Ngaanyatjarra Media. Since he began in 1992, Noeli has produced over 50 videos for Ngaanyatjarra Media. He has organised and promoted several successful Inma (traditional dance) festivals and is a key figure in maintaining the strength of Ngaanyatjarra culture. Noeli produced a successful documentary about a traditional Tjukurrpa (story) and song line "Minyma Kutjarra Tjukurrpa" (Two Sisters Story) for the SBS ICAM program, aired also on Imparja. He jointly won a Tudawali Award for his work on this film. Noeli has also been employed as a Cultural Advisor for international documentaries on the Ngaanyatjarra lands. Previously, Noeli has been on the PY Media Executive (Ernabella Community, SA) for more than ten years. Noeli is well known and respected in the indigenous media sector and plays a major role in the direction and coordination of media in the region and nationally. He focuses very strongly on his role in cultural maintenance through media and promoting Media as a strong force on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. Belle Davidson: Senior Minyma BRACS Worker
Belle has worked as the Senior Minyma (Women's) Media Officer at Ngaanyatjarra Media since 1994. During this time she has been networking and liaising with local communities, regional bodies and government departments to further develop media on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. Belle is a professional translator and is sought after for her Cultural liaison skills. She has directed, produced and acted in many Ngaanyatjarra Media video productions, including scripting and direction of "Minyma Kutjarra Tjukurrpa" (Two Sisters Story) for the SBS ICAM program, for which she jointly won a Tudawali Award. In the past Belle has been involved in a trip to Kuala Lumpur for an art exhibition opening, at which she was exhibiting work and filming the event. Belle has directed, produced and acted in an AIDS awareness production for Ngaanyatjarra Health and a video to promote the Ngaanyatjarra Education Area. Belle was recently involved with a young woman's (Kungka) Domestic Violence Video Project in conjunction with the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women¹s Council Domestic Violence Unit. Working in various positions within communities over the years, including training and employment as a Health Worker, Belle has developed a very unique and inherent Yanangu style of production. Daniel Featherstone (Utjutja): Media Coordinator
Daniel Featherstone works as the Media Coordinator for Ngaanyatjarra Media. He is a graduate of the Australian Film Television and Radio School, having completed a BA in Cinematography in 1997. He also has a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Communications (Film & TV) at Curtin University of Technology in Perth in 1990, where he specialised in directing, cinematography and Indigenous media. Having begun his career in WA, he moved to Sydney where he worked consistently as a cinematographer for 5 years, shooting Australian and international documentaries, commercials, corporate videos, and short films. Daniel has won numerous awards as a cinematographer, both nationally and internationally, including Best Student Cinematographer at the Prestigious Camerimage Festival for Cinematography in Poland. He has been nominated for an AFI Award, won Best Black & White Film at Slamdance in the US and won the Kodak Prize at Cilect Festival in Denmark. He has also written and directed several short films, and has directed and produced documentaries, corporates and video clips.. He is a keen photographer and has held several exhibitions and presentations of his landscape and travel photography. |
