The Nursery

Located at Umuwa, APLM has a small nursery. This nursery provides plants and irrigation equipment for sale, a landscaping service, advice on suitable plant species for the AP Lands. The nursery hopes to develop a seed bank to preserve seed unique to the area and to increase its work with revegetation support.

Seed Bank

From September 1999 the Revegetation Centre will begin establishing a seed bank to preserve seed unique to the area and to supply future broad acre revegetation projects.

Revegetation Support Centre

The RSC (Revegetation Support Centre) provides a service to Anangu and the agencies operating on the Pitjantjatjara Lands, a very remote region of Australia.

The RSC consists of two components: (1) the operation of a nursery, and (2) the provision of logistical support through revegetation programs.

The nursery supplies native indigenous species as well as citrus fruit trees. It also stocks and sells reticulation equipment. It is the only supplier for 400 kms.

Requests are often made to the RSC to provide professional advice, supervision and training for revegetation planning in order to reduce dust and supply shade. Dust causes many health problems on the AP Lands. RSC staff work in conjunction with Community Development Employment Program (CDEP) participants to complete and achieve the goals of these revegetation projects.

The RSC is currently being supported by the Indigenous Lands Council (ILC) and the National Heritage Trust (NHT). Because of the enormity of our task, we welcome additional material and financial support to continue the Revegetation Support Centre.
