Landcare - Warburton Project > Stage 2, Diversion Bank (February '92)
Picture 1. An aerial view of the diversion bank which was built to divert storm water from the catchment area, along the old airstrip, across a water shed to be dispersed into a catchment which is still largely vegetated. This diversion bank was approximately one kilometre long with a fall of 13.4 cm per 100 metres (0.13%). Hence if the eastern section of the old airstrip collects high volumes of storm water, it will be diverted and slowly move into another catchment area, avoiding local flooding. |

Picture 2. View of the cross-section of the diversion bank. The bank was approximately four metres at the base and would settle to one metre high. The canal on the inside of it was ten metres across with a flat floor of four metres. Another fourteen ponding banks were constructed between those built in Stage I and the newly built diversion bank. The area beyond this bank to the east was ploughed with staggered furrows. |
