Landcare - Warburton Project > Stage 1, Storm water collection (June '91)

Picture 1.
Ponding banks holding storm water along the contour. This water would have normally been dispersed and not collected to assist the germination and growth of plant material.

Picture 2.
Storm water being collected within the circles of a spiral. Vegetation begins to grow along the furrows and the mound between them. Eventually the flat areas between the circles in the spiral revegetate. As the vegetation becomes established along the furrows and mound, vegetable trash begins to build up along them, increasing the ability of the new micro climate to retain storm water. More plant material germinates which joins up with the next circle in the spiral.

Picture 3.
Storm water caught in the ditch along a staggered furrow. Normally this water would have been dispersed, evaporated and lost from use by plant material. Staggered furrows are very useful for revegetating areas which normally remain bare.
