Anumara Project

Back

The Anumara tjukurpa, that Irintata Homelands has been involved with, is the end of a Dreamtime Story. The story is based on caterpillars which Anumara represent. Irintata Homelands has successfully provided an opportunity for Anangu Pitjantjatjara to be actively involved in maintaining this site of cultural significance.

Maintaining and not degrading areas of cultural significance will continue on independently. It is hoped that this project will allow people from the communities and from afar the choice of seeing such an important site and learning something about this special region of Australia.

Essentially, this project consisted of cleaning away the existing grass from close to the stone formations and placing a three barbed wire fence around the site. A gate allows people to enter the area on foot from the provided car park. An informative sign will describe the story in both English and Pitjantjatjara. The story will be available through Radio 5NPY and on video format in the near future.
