At Amata Community there is an excellent Aged Care facility provided by Nganampa Health. There are three buildings, one of which is for food preparation and clothes washing whilst the other two are used for accommodation. The food cooked there is very healthy indeed. All the Elders are happy with this important service. Some people choose to stay in a different house in the Community, however they regularly visit the Centre for some food or a social visit.

Aged Care Workers

Karren Cooke
I started in December 2003 with Nganampa Health as an Aged Care Worker. In the morning we make the salad and lunch, when we have finished we put it all in the Toyota and deliver the food. This work is from Monday to Friday. Sometimes we take the Elders out bush to eat tjala, malu, maku, ngintaka. I used to work at the Pukatja Aged Care before I came over here. I really like this job, because it allows me to make sure the Elders are Healthy and Happy. Before all of this I was working in Education for Seven Years and then as a Health Worker at Papulankutja and Warakurna. I am showing through this story, which way I was working so my children will know. I also have two granddaughters who I hope when they see my story they will work hard and help Anangu Tjuta.

Sandy Williams
I start my day by getting up early to get the food all ready, I also check the car. From Monday to Friday I help to get the food ready for the breakfast, lunch and dinner. On Saturday’s and sometimes Sunday’s I often go out and collect timber for fires and also timber punu for art work. Sometimes I go out to get malu which I bring back and share it with the Elders.
